1. Biography
Singaporean pianist Kelvin Chan made his debut with an all-Ravel recital in 2002. In July 2004, he gave a performance of Prokofiev’s Sonata No.7 at the “Prokofiev War Cycle” concert in Singapore. He performed this very work once again in January 2005 at a fund-raising concert held at Victoria Concert Hall for the 2004 tsunami victims, which was broadcast on national television. Kelvin has also performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue in August 2005 at Victoria Concert Hall. In 2006, he was invited to play at the Musica da Camera series of concerts at The Arts House.
Kelvin was a recipient of the Cambridge Intercollegiate Instrumental Award, and has given numerous solo and chamber recitals at various Cambridge colleges and Mayballs. He performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A major (K.488) with the Corpus Christi College Orchestra in 2008, and with the University of Cambridge Philharmonia in 2009. He also performed Saint-Saëns Le Carnaval des Animaux with Christ’s College Orchestra in 2009.
Kelvin was a semi-finalist in the Artist Category of the 2007 Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition, and was invited to play at competition adjudicator Mary Mei-Loc Wu’s masterclass. He has played for numerous musicians such as Arthur Fagen and James Boyd, as well as the London Philharmonic Chamber Group, and has worked extensively with Tedd Joselson, Noriko Ogawa, Bryce Morrison, and Stephen Manes. In 2013, he performed at the La Jolla Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, the San Diego Public Library, and at a Cambridge in America alumni event. His 2014 schedule included chamber recitals with cellist Janet White at the San Diego Public Library and other venues. Kelvin is a co-founder of the Chamber Circle Singapore, and he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA.
